This is how Lady Gouldian Finches look during their annual Spring moult. You can see the white pin feathers on their heads ready to unfurl into beautiful brand new feathers. The black-headed bird is unusual - he looks really scruffy because he's moulting in chunks all over his body!...but he's a very handsome bird once his new feathers come in.
