Fish Keeping Jamaica & ADVENTURES's video: FISHROOM VENTILATION FISHROOM HUMIDITY

@FISHROOM VENTILATION | FISHROOM HUMIDITY
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE A VENTILATION SYSTEM IN YOUR FISH ROOM lets give you a visual imagery of what exist here in Jamaica, a country located in the tropics, considered to be experiencing a tropical marine climate, located between 20-24 degrees north of the equator. Jamaica has two distinct season. I am getting into the meat of the matter just bare with me a bit. Jamaica experiences a wet season ( which is considered rainy season – usually cool in temperature) and a dry season, usually warm in temperature. Because Jamaica does not experience winter or extreme cold temperature, their buildings are primarily constructed with concrete. How does this fits into the topic, well, every fish species although unique to a region if too exposed to some elements of weather too much for too long will experience health issues. Gold fish can live in extreme cold temperature, they just need oxygen . Nature has its way of preserving wild animals, you see cold water holds more oxygen than warm water. So the goldfish can live in winter like conditions, you just don’t feed them and you have an equipment ( de icer or aerator) in the water which prevents it from freezing over. Ok lets get on topic now that the backdrop for the discussion should be underpinned now. Jamaica, don’t get snow, so we don’t need a de icer. Jamaica get some heat which makes you want to get naked. Well that’s something else. With aquariums indoor, the concrete building insolating the heat from the sun throughout the day, inside buildings that has been locked up when no one is home or in some cases that has poor ventilation the aquarium fish will become collateral damage. It is on this premise that I began to gather 55 gallon drums or barrels to keep my fish. Today I have a few aquariums indoor. Six in total , presently, Jamaica and several section of the Caribbean is experiencing a cool series of temperature from as far a Mid December through to now. This is good as my aquarium fish indoors are doing well and I am appreciating them more. I look at them more and my kids and wife tend to admire them swimming very often. With the advent of the pandemic comes virtual classes and online task . I DON’T GO OUT MUCH SOMEONE IS HERE AT HOME ACTUALLY EVERYDAY AND MY IN HOUSE IS CONSIDER TEMPERATURE SAFE FOR MY FISH TANKS. If I was to go out with my family the house would be locked up and the heat / temperature indoor would increase. This would have affected my aquarium fish health and in some cases, increase the risk of disease, decrease the strength of my aquarium fish slime . Eventually my fish kept indoor would die. Most aquarist like myself here in Jamaica do have setup around their yard. Aquariums are placed on the car port ( which is usually not enclosed), or on the porch back or front.Frankly speaking the aquarium would have perfect natural ventilation needed for occupants of the aquarium to live a healthy peaceful life. The idea of creating a fishroom seems great and ambitious on my part. I now would have to consider several steps to take so as to maintain the most appropriate temperature for my aquatic livestock. Ok so I have left out the impact of the heat on aquarium plants. Now with plants you would need lights, and lights increase the heat transfer or absorption which ever you choose to use. Yes this is also a factor. Too much heat in aquarium water will affect plant growth. Plants may wilt and die or plants may become discoloured. Eventually they will become distasteful to look at. Ventilation of your aquarium fish room can be expensive here in Jamaica. But with much smarts you can be creative and that expense will become insignificant. To many throughout the world having an air conditioned room is the standard for the summer , while having a centralized heating system in the winter is like , “ what is expected “ by law in many states and provinces throughout the world. Creating a fish farm with heavy filtration would require constant income and profit turnover which would cover all expense. For me I trade aquarium fish that are in excess. I trade when I want and to whom I want. So I am never pressured to make a sale to cover personal expenses. Ok lets back to ventilating your fish room. This is a task you should consider very carefully. Using a fan or fans inside your fish room do help. Installing the fan in strategic places which aid in the movement of generated warm air in the fish room to a vent or window is a very good idea.
