FishConsultGroup's video: Artisanal fishing in Foum Gleita reservoir in Mauritania

Video credit: Vaghih El Bechiry (Mauritania) Description: Abdel Rahman El Gamal (Founder of the video channel) The inserted video shows a typical fishing practice carried out in Foum-Gleita reservoir which is a man-made reservoir connected to Foum Gleita Dam which was completed in 1988 with the primary purpose of supplying water for the irrigation of up to 4,000 ha of crops. As shown in the video, the bout serves to carry the fishing seine and stretch it around a designated area of water body. The fishermen staying on the land with both ends of the seine in hands start pulling the seine along with its haul of captured fish. The catch composition in this particular operation includes several species such as “Alestes” and others.
