Interval weight training is one of our secret fat loss weapons in the Summer Sizzle. (0:40) Why is interval weight training good for you? They’re fun. By structuring the workouts they way we do you are knocking out anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour of cardio in every session. The entire hour is uptempo, there are a variety of movements to keep things interesting, and you can compete with your lifting partner on every interval. (0:55) How do you do interval weight training: We structure IWT in three parts Part 1 Pair an explosive movement with a cardio component. We typically choose olympic lifts here, but for the Summer Sizzle we are pairing plyometrics and other easier to learn movements so the workouts are friendly for everyone. Part one is usually 3-5 rounds depending on the length of the cardio interval. If the cardio interval is short, we typically add more rounds. (3:10) Part 1 in Today’s Workout 3 Rounds 5 Depth Jumps 5 KB Vertical Jumps 150 YD Shuttle Rest 2 Minutes Part 2 Pair a power lift or accessory lift with a cardio interval. Lifts we use in Part 2 are things like squats, lunges, and deadlifts. In Part 2 we usually stay at 3 rounds and keep the cardio interval a bit longer. In the 1-4 Minute Range. (4:19) Part 2 in Today’s Workout 3 Rounds 15 YD Single Arm Overhead Lunge each arm 1 Minute Sled Push for Max Distance 2 Minute Rest Part 3 Circuit of any gaps in the programming for the week. This can really be anything. Today we decided to blow up the upper body with a quick 3 Round circuit.
