I used to have trouble with this myself!! It sounds crazy, but it really isn’t!! For those in the gain or lose 30 lbs camp, you won’t have trouble with this, but this one is more for people who’re already close to their goals of their ideal body. For example, back when I was into being big, my goal was 225 lbs and around 6-7% bodyfat. I’d eat, and lift, eat and lift, get more muscle, but of course, gain some fat as well. I’d see myself lose my abs and then I’d diet to get my abs back!! Then I’d drop some fat, but I’d lose muscle as well!! I’d go on a roller coaster with my plans, and never stuck to it. I also found myself doing the same thing when I was trying to get ripped!! I made mistakes that LEAD to me switching goals, but the main thing is, STICK TO YOUR GOAL!! Don’t be afraid to gain a little bit of fat; just make adjustments!! Or don’t be afraid to lose a muscle, MAKE ADJUSTMENTS, and keep going until you reach your goal!! We’re all human, we’ll slip up in our diet or training, just stick to the plan!! – Make a realistic plan!!! This one is really important. I’ll see people come up with these crazy, ridiculous plans, such as, oh, I’ll just cut out all my carbs tomorrow, and then do that for the next 3 months, and I’ll be ripped!! Or, I’ll go on a 30 day juice fast, and I’m there man!!! Or if you just start working out, oh, I’m gonna do all these sets and exercises on the first day!! I’m not saying that IF you go on said plan, it won’t work, but you can’t go from 0-100!! A plan is worthless if you don’t or can’t execute. Going to zero carbs after eating carbs all the time is going to be painful. Going all out on your first day in the gym is gonna be painful. Pain is growth, but also you need to be realistic in working towards your goal. You want to gradually get your body used to what you’re doing. Start a diet by say, cutting out all your sodas in the first week. Then the second week you cut out dessert. Something like that. Same with lifting. First week you do some basic lifts to get your body used to it, and add on after that. I’m not saying, just show up and dick around. You definitely want to get a sweat going, but you just don’t want to kill yourself at the beginning. Pace yourself!! Think of it like a marathon, you don’t want to go all out the first mile!! – Write down everything!! Yes!! Write out your plan!! Write down everything!! Write out what you’re supposed to eat, and what you’re suppose to do!! You wouldn’t believe how much this helps. It really doesn’t take that much time to write down what you’re eating and what you’re doing. Writing out the eating and workout plan just takes one time at the beginning. Write down what exercises at what weight with how many reps and how many sets. I mean everything. Write down what you eat; record the calories. You know why all this helps? Because you feel accountable for everything. You write down, brownie, 350 calories 4 days in a row, and you feel compelled to change it. You write down, deadlift, 8 reps at 315 for a few weeks in a row, and you start wondering if you’re actually pushing yourself in the gym. Trust me. It’s hard to explain. It doesn’t take that long, and the value of writing everything in a log is way more than the cost of the time it takes!!! – Execute!! Stick to the plan!! This is really the toughest part; execution is the key!! Once you’ve made a realistic blueprint to your ideal body, you want to make sure you stick to it!!! You’ll stick to your plan once you’ve written out what you’ll be doing and what you actually did. What I did was write down a to do list every night before I went to bed, and in the morning I’d look at the list and follow the list!! It’s okay to slip up once in awhile; life will get in the way from time to time. Sometimes you’ll have a work dinner, or maybe it’s someone’s birthday and you’re forced to have a little cake. The main thing is, if you slip up a little bit, just remember to get back to the plan!! Annnnnd the way to stick transform your body…. – Focus on one day at a time!! Mindset, mindset, Mindset!!
