Florida Sheriffs's video: 2023 Sheriffs Day at Capitol

Each year, Florida’s sheriffs gather at the state Capitol to be public safety subject matter experts for the state legislators and advocate for legislation that will continue leading to safe communities for Florida’s residents and visitors. To maintain a low crime rate, this advocacy work is a full-time job for the sheriffs throughout the year, but there is something special about having our sheriffs together as a united front together in-person to push for laws that keep you and your family safe from criminals. This year, over 40 sheriffs came to the state Capitol on March 23 to meet with legislators and officials that include House Speaker Paul Renner and Senate President Kathleen Passidomo. The meetings focused on the sheriff’s priorities and ultimately what is working and what additionally needs to be done so that Florida’s crime rate remains much lower than other states. This year was a unique Sheriff’s Day at the Capitol because the public was invited to have lunch with their sheriff. Delicioius barbeque was just the start of this exciting event. Sheriffs from all across the state also brought K9s and horses to engage with attendees while also allowing the attendees to check out some vehicles and equipment to better understand the jobs that our law enforcement officers are doing.
