These are five tips to ensure your records are properly stored and handled. One. Use the inner sleeve. Most records come with paper sleeves, which are adequate, but paper sleeves are more likely to scratch than rice paper sleeves and can leave bits of debris on the records. There is no shortage of affordable inner sleeve upgrades to keep your records safe. Nothing is worse than using no sleeve at all, so please, no matter what, just some sort of inner sleeve. Two. Use outer sleeves. Outer sleeves will keep dust off your record, and although they can't eliminate ring wear, they reduce it. Three. Store records in a cool place, not in the sun. Ideally, 65 to 70 degrees. And keep an eye on humidity as well. Humidity is a problem with vinyl records so keep them in a dry, climate-controlled place. Four. When putting your record back in the sleeve, do so horizontally, not vertically. Putting records in the sleeve horizontally ensures that you can gently place the record in the jacket by touching the label and edge. It also ensures you won't drop it. Five, store records vertically. If you lay records on top of each other, it will lead to warping. For more tips about storing and playing your records, read the blog article linked in the description. Inner and outer sleeves keep dust off the record. And what attracts dust? Static.
