Fly-Carpin's video: Chatfield Carp Rescue 2014

@Chatfield Carp Rescue 2014
http://www.flycarpin.com In the summer of 2014 a small band of kids and adults teamed up at Chatfield Reservoir in Littleton CO to rescue a population of common and mirror carp that had been trapped in a backwater slough and cut off from the main reservoir. This backwater was drying up rapidly and had dropped from waste deep to less than knee deep in just over a week and park management agreed to let us go in and rescue the fish in order to save the fish and avoid a possible public health hazard. The experience turned out to be allot of fun as everybody dove in and got dirty for a good cause. Thanks to all the participants for helping save these carp!!! Additional thanks to Chris Galvin and Cassie Stenstrom for many of the photos. NOTE: These are NOT the Bighead Asian or Silver Asian carp that have gotten so much negative publicity in the Mississippi river basin. These are common and mirror carp which were intentionally introduced in the United States a long long time ago. Additionally this is a completely artificial reservior. The overwhelming majority of the fish (if not ALL) are introduced species - just like the carp. And finally we sought, and recieved permission from park management to do this rescue. Park Rangers were dispatched to keep an eye on us and were on-site and watching for the majority of the to me.
