Fogarty Avenue's video: Sneaking inside a HUGE abandoned 1860 s Railway Freight Shed - The Goods Shed Ballarat

The Ballarat railway goods shed was built in 1863 and is the largest bluestone goods shed in Victoria Australia. The Ballarat Station complex was the largest in Victoria and a key transport hub for goods bound for national and overseas export. The station handled 150 tonnes a day, and with the opening of The Goods Shed in 1863, export revenue increased five-fold. The goods shed handled freight for 146 years until it closed in 2009 going off the most recent calendar I found. After the closure the heritage listed building was seldomly used for storage by Ballarat Railway station but was virtually abandoned. The gargantuan goods shed sat empty being attacked by vandals and pooped on by pigeons for years. Luckily it remained pretty untouched inside which was fascinating to see. Located right next to the Ballarat train station the derelict goods shed was a massive eyesore for the city but was equally as massive of an opportunity for redevelopment to serve the community. The goods shed has now been restored and converted into a new social, cultural and hospitality hub, featuring an outdoor plaza, a convention centre, theatre, meeting rooms, a hotel and drinking and dining experiences all housed inside a beautifully refurbished heritage space.
