@Jan 2019 UPDATE - FUTURE AZ Loop 202 - South Mountain Freeway - 59th Ave and Salt River Alignments

Today we go back and see how much progress has been made on the Loop 202/South Mountain Freeway 59th Ave, Salt River and Center Alignments. This freeway, which has been 30 years in the making, is expected to be open in the next year and provide a much needed bypass of the Downtown Phoenix area for travelers criss-crossing the southern half of the valley. The new freeway traverses the (soon-to-be former) 59th St corridor from the I-10/Papago Freeway in the Estrella village, south to approximately Lower Buckeye Rd, where it moves further west to bypass some existing homes. Past there, near Southern Ave, the new freeway butts right up against the Gila River Indian Community in the Laveen area, even going through part of the South Mountain Preserve to stay out of the reservation. Continuing through the South Mountain Preserve and into the Ahwatukee Foothills, the freeway aligns itself with Pecos Rd for it's final connection with the current Loop 202/Santan Freeway and I-10/Maricopa Freeway interchange. I found out after filming and editing this video that ADOT has approved the addition of a new interchange located at Ivanhoe St to serve the Vee Quiva Casino on the reservation. It will also help with traffic in the Dusty Lane community, but the Ivanhoe exit will be blocked on the east to keep freeway and casino traffic out of the rural community. Overall I'm very exited for the opening of this freeway and will continue creating update videos until it's completed. Since I primarily stay in the east valley, it's not as easy to get over to the west valley to film. I hope to do at least 2-3 more updates on Pecos and 1-2 on 59th Ave. Stay tuned!
