In late 2021, Davidson College President Quillen released the Davidson Commitment to Free Expression. While not yet formally accepted by the faculty or Board of Trustees, the statement is based on the University of Chicago’s statement protecting free expression on campus. If adopted in full, the statement promises the college will “promote the lively and fearless freedom of debate and deliberation and will also protect that freedom when others attempt to restrict it.” But what does this mean for Davidson students, faculty, and alumni?
