Thanks again and look forward to the video recording. Best,Matt Mugno (Rusty's nephew) +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ From Tammy -5/11/20 In his years as pastor at St. John’s, Rusty shared his many gifts with us without reservation. One was to make us feel important to him, and to each other. His absolute commitment to inclusion was what drew me to St. John’s and to the community that he created. He used to say that if someone was not in church on Sunday, it was like a piece of the puzzle was missing; that in order for us to be whole, we had to be present to each other. Then, in 2013 he announced his retirement. The most important piece of our puzzle would be gone forever. For over a year, he prepared us for his leaving, knowing how much his absence would mean to us, but at the same time, showing us a way forward. He taught us that we would continue without him because we would carry who we’d become in our hearts, and into the world, where we’d remain connected through love. I was in touch with Rusty often since his diagnosis This was my last message to him: My dear friend, We have spoken many times about the blessings that you have brought into my life, and into the lives of so many others. But I have never shared with you how honored I was to have worked with you to care for the St. John’s community. You chose me, trusted me, had faith in me. I considered it a sacred obligation which I was ever-blessed to keep. Please hold that in your heart, as I hold it in mine. With love and gratitude, Tammy +++++++++++++++++++++++++++
