In Portugal the bull is often fought from horseback and is not killed. However sometimes things go wrong and the bull fights back! Here is our top list of 10 times things went horribly wrong. 10. Mora Mora was flicked around the bullring like a ragdoll by the enraged bull he intended to kill. Mora was pierced through his femoral artery by the bull, and needed immediate emergency surgery. 9. Israel Lancho Israel Lancho had the misfortune of getting impaled by a bull in Madrid. The bull's horn went in 8 inches and doctors said it was a miracle that it didn't hit the matador's heart. 8. Jose Tomas Jose Tomas, widely considered one of the best bullfighters of all time, was gored by two bulls at the Las Ventas bullring in Madrid. He sustained a particularly painful injury to his groin. 7. Jimenez Fortes Bullfighter Jimenez Fortes narrowly avoided death after he was gored twice in the neck by a bull during Madrid's annual taurine festival – and then asked the doctor if he could return to ''kill the bull''. 6. Matador Fernando Cruz Matador Fernando Cruz found himself on the wrong end of both of the bull's horns he was ''fighting'' at Madrid's La Ventas bull ring. Cruz suffered wounds to both his stomach and thigh. 5. Running of the Bulls Pamplona This bull caught two U.S. brothers Michael, right, and Lawrence Lenahan, left, who were gored at the same time during the Running of the Bulls Pamplona, Spain, on July 12, 2007. 4. Pedro Muriel Pedro Muriel was tackled by the raging beast during a bullfight at the Malagueta bullring in Malaga. 3. San Fermin runner A runner was gored through the leg during the final running of the bulls at Spain's San Fermin festival. 2. Julio Aparicio Diaz Julio Aparicio Diaz was participating in the San Isidro Festival in Las Ventas, performing with a 530 kg (1,168 lb) bull named Opiparo when he lost his footing and was gored through the neck and out of his mouth by the bull's right horn. 1. Miguel Ruiz Perez Miguel Ruiz Perez was struck in the abdomen after slipping as he took part in an exhibition involving athletes and bulls. He was horned in the stomach while trapped against wooden fencing around the bull-ring as he tried to reach safety. Unfortunately he died from his injuries.
