@Lee Ving of Fear on leftover songs for The Record | Frumess
Lee Ving talks about what happened to the songs that didn't appear on Fear's debut album, The Record. Lee Ving of the legendary west-coast punk band FEAR joins Jeff Frumess on Pizza Punk for an interview. It was an honor to speak with such an icon as well as talk to him about Fear's infamous Halloween appearance on Saturday Night Live, working with Glenn Danzig on Death Rider in the House of Vampires, and the tone of songs like, "Let's Have a War." https://linktr.ee/atomageindustries ______________________________________________ JOIN THE PATREON FOR LESS THAN A $2 CUP OF COFFEE!! https://www.patreon.com/Frumess 📹 OR SUPPORT THIS CHANNEL, BUY A CUP OF COFFEE ☕ https://ko-fi.com/frumessfilmsllc https://linktr.ee/FRUMESS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ FRUMESS is POWERED by www.riotstickers.com/frumess GET 1000 STICKERS FOR $79 RIGHT HERE - NO PROMO CODE NEED! The band is credited for helping to shape the sound and style of Californian hardcore punk. The group gained national prominence after an infamous 1981 performance on Saturday Night Live. Frontman Lee Ving has been the band's only constant member. Since its formation, the band has gone through various lineup changes, and at one point featured Flea, later a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, on bass. The classic FEAR lineup existed from 1978 to 1982, and was composed of Ving, guitarist Philo Cramer, bassist Derf Scratch and drummer Spit Stix. Fear also appeared on the 1981 Halloween episode of Saturday Night Live (SNL) at the suggestion of SNL writer Michael O'Donoghue and then ex-SNL cast-member John Belushi. Belushi became a fan of Fear after seeing them perform in 1980 on the L.A.-based music television show New Wave Theatre; O'Donoghue had seen the band in The Decline of Western Civilization. Belushi had initially commissioned the band to record a song for his film Neighbors, but the movie studio rejected the recording and it never made the soundtrack. As a favor to Fear, Belushi and O'Donoghue made a deal with then producer Dick Ebersol whereby Belushi would make a cameo appearance on the show upon condition that Fear be allowed to perform as the episode's musical guests. A large portion of the crowd were punk music fans and included members of the bands Minor Threat, Cro-Mags, The Meatmen and Negative Approach who rushed the stage and were moshing. One of the slam dancers yelled "Fuck New York!" which was broadcast live. Dick Ebersol, who was stage manager at the time, decided to cut to tape once the obscenities could be heard. _____________________________________________________ JOIN THE PATREON FOR LESS THAN A $2 CUP OF COFFEE!! https://www.patreon.com/Frumess 📹 OR SUPPORT THIS CHANNEL, BUY A CUP OF COFFEE ☕ https://ko-fi.com/frumessfilmsllc https://linktr.ee/FRUMESS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ FRUMESS is POWERED by www.riotstickers.com CHECK OUT THE NEW CONTEST FROM RIOTSTICKERS.COM 20 CUSTOM PRINT TSHIRTS - ANY DESIGN YOU THINK OF - FREE!
