FuelTech USA's video: Twin Turbo Mustang Tanner Motorsports

The FuelTech PowerFT engine management systems are touted as being one of the most versatile tools in motorsports and the record-breaking performances prove it. One of the most overlooked options are the bracket racing features, which includes an integrated delay box. A quick look at the tools makes it quite clear why FuelTech is growing in popularity at big money bracket races across the country. The latest to make the switch to a FT600 engine management system is former PDRA Junior Dragster champion and Top Sportsman standout Preston Tanner of Tanner Motorsports. The young driver slides behind the wheel of the family’s twin turbocharged 2015 Mustang GT, which features a chassis designed and built by Wally Stroupe at SRC Motorsports. The team is shooting for 3,000 WHP with the Pro Line Racing 481X and the FT600 is right at home keeping the bullet under control. As mentioned earlier the Power FT line (FT600, FT550, FT550 LITE, and FT450) includes several standard features to ensure your engine has what it needs to make the most power it is capable of producing. Those standard features include sequential injection and ignition, O2 closed loop, Data Logger, Delay Box, Boost Controller, Nitrous Controller, and much more. The ECU box doubles up as an LCD display and TFT touchscreen showing real-time data and allowing the user to make adjustments without a PC connection. Each PowerFT ECU also includes data logging capabilities, making the FT600 and its sibling products a true all-in-one unit. Tanner Motorsports relies on an EGT-8 CAN to expand the input capacity of the FT600 and enable the use of eight thermo-coupler temperature sensors like EGT, oil or water temperature, and CHT. The EGT-8 CAN is compatible with any FT-series engine management system, including the older FT500 and FT500-LITE. For those who require the ultimate in expansion, FuelTech recently released its Input Expander that connects using CAN communication. It allows for up to 24 additional inputs, including 20 analog inputs and 4 VR sensors. The team is shooting for 3,000 WHP with its Comp 88mm turbochargers, requiring an adequate ignition system. The team turned to the FTSPARK-8 Gen I and it is paired with a set of CDI Racing Ignition coils. The Gen I system is highly capable but has since been replaced with the FTSPARK-8 Gen II. The Gen II box offers a minimum and guaranteed 750mj of energy at 140 amps and has been tested up to 850mj in certain applications. FuelTech tests every unit prior to boxing to ensure each one meets the 750mj minimum guarantee. For those keeping score, that is a 25 percent increase in mj output over the FTSPARK Gen I and a 12.5 percent increase in amps at the primary coil. All Gen I ignition boxes are upgradable to Gen II and it uses the same enclosure, making the swap easy and quick.
