Fun in the Sun Floridian's video: Movies filmed in Florida

Several movies have been filmed in the beautiful, sunny state of Florida. This video highlights some of the movies. Edward Scissorhands 1990 Carpenter's Subdivision in Lutz served as the pastel- colored backdrop for this Tim Burton film about a scissor-handed outcast clad in all black (Johnny Depp). Parts of the movie were also filmed in the Southgate Shopping Center in Lakeland. Cocoon 1985 Florida retirement-home residents find the fountain of youth in the form of a mysterious swimming pool in this Ron Howard-directed movie. Cocoon was filmed in and around St. Petersburg and included scenes at the St Petersburg Shuffleboard Club, The Coliseumand Snell Arcade buildings. Birdcage 1996 South Beach serves as the setting for this blockbuster remake of the Franco-Italian comedy “La Cage aux Folles.” The inspired casting finds Robin Williams and Nathan Lane playing a gay couple trying to pass themselves off as straight for the benefit of their son. Scarface 1983 Miami has never looked quite so eerily exotic or vicious as it does in Brian De Palma’s ultra-violent gangster epic, scripted by Oliver Stone, about a Cuban immigrant (Al Pacino) determined to realize the American dream by any means necessary. The Truman Show 1998 Jim Carrey stars in this take on reality TV, filmed in Seaside, a community located in Florida's panhandle between Panama City Beach and Destin. Body Heat 1981 One of the sexiest movie ever made, set in Palm Beach County and filmed throughout Lake Worth and Hypoluxo and starring super stars William Hurt, Kathleen Turner and Mickey Rourke. Magic Mike 2012 Filmed in Tampa’s Ybor City and other locations in Tampa Bay, this movie spotlights the nightlife in the Tampa area, Starring Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey. There's Something About Mary 1998 This comedy set in Miami and Fort Lauderdale area where Ben Stiller reunites with high school fantasy Cameron Diaz . Apollo 13 1995 Filmed on location, partially, at Kennedy Space Center in the space coast. “Apollo 13″ is Ron Howard’s tale of the near-disastrous 1970 attempt by NASA to return to the moon. Great performance byTom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris and Kathleen Quinlan. The One and Only Ivan 2018 In June, 2018 Disney filmed a portion of The One and Only Ivan, an adaptation of the beloved children’s book written by Katherine Applegate, at the Southgate Shopping Center and other locations in Lakeland. The book’s main characters are a silverback gorilla named Ivan, a baby elephant named Stella, and a stray dog named Bob, all living in a suburban shopping mall. Movie to be released in 2020.
