@Transition Talks - Opinions on Low Carbon Transport and Future Mobility, Episode 6: Ben Welle
In the episode 6 of Transition Talks. Opinions on Low Carbon Transport and Future Mobility, Ben Welle, Director for Integrated Transport & Innovation at the WRI Ross Center For Sustainable Cities of the World Resources Institute (https://www.wri.org/), explains that ride-hailing is changing urban transport systems but that the actual effects are different in cities worldwide. He outlines that by making ride-hailing a complementary service to public transport it could become a more sustainable mode. He finalises that in order to tab into the benefits of ride-hailing a package of regulations and policies is necessary, such as congestion charging and other demand side policies or investment into public transport as done in the cases of Vienna, Austria or Seattle, US. In the interview, Mr. Welle addresses three questions: 1. What are benefits and negative impacts of ride-hailing for the aim of creating liveable, integrative and climate-friendly cities? (00:32 min) 2. What kind of regulation would be needed to make ride-hailing more sustainable and more integrated? (06:10 min) 3. Do you know of examples of ride-hailing regulation or policy that could serve as best practice? (10:52 min) Why watching Transition Talks?
