GIZ's video: Traceability in Mauritanian fisheries: Digitization of first sale certificates

Traceability is a key element to achieve sustainable fisheries. It contributes to the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing as well as food safety for consumers. For this reason, the GIZ SEWOH component of Promopêche supported the Mauritanian Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Economy and the National Office of Sanitary Inspection of Fishing and Aquaculture Products (ONISPA) to develop, introduce and digitize a certification of first sale and hygiene of fisheries products in Mauritania. This certificate is now delivered at every landing site. Promopêche promotes decent employment and sustainable artisanal fisheries in Mauritania. The GIZ component of this programme is financed by the European Union Emergency Trust Fund for Africa (EUFT) and the special initiative ONE WORLD – No Hunger (SEWOH) of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The aim of the component is to improve food security through the promotion of sustainable fisheries, hence also contributing to employment and economic development.
