Known in Australia simply as 'PRISONER' the programme became well known in the UK as 'PRISONER Cell Block H'. The series was created by Reg Watson (also created Young Doctors, Sons & Daughters Neighbours and in the UK 'CROSSROADS' from 1964-1976. The show centered on the life of the inmates behind locked doors, and the prison staff. The idea was initially conceived as a 16 part single series, which actually ran for 892 episodes from 1979-86!. The programme was made by GRUNDY TELEVISION PTY.LTD an Australian Company, shown in Australia on Channel ten. In the UK the programme was broadcast by ITV.
