Helen is our lovely friend ~ she is a wonderful lady ~ we are supporting her & her music :) Singer songwriters are ten a penny, so it's a welcome change to stumble upon one who's worth her weight in gold.... Helen Lloyd is a musician & songwriter from North London whose music is an inspired modern take on the melodramatic sound of the 1960's (influenced by Phil Spector & Scott Walker) fused with orchestral like composition, dramatic chord changes & pinches of Indie, Guitar Groups and Classical music along the way. Helen is currently working on a full length album (much of which has been recorded in her home studio) after the release of her well received self titled EP - she is also currently playing acoustic shows in music venues around the UK & she says, "It can sometimes be hard, as due to budget constraints when I perform it's usually just me & my piano & the drama of the strings and brass - my version of the wall of sound - can be lost. It isn't a problem though, it just means I have to work harder conveying the emotion through my voice & the piano!". Helen's music offers songs that have a refreshing quality to their construction & execution - they possess delicacy & a lightness of touch that is beguilingly immersed in fulsome productions that leave a scintillating tang on the palette. The vocals are smooth & pure - the songs are unpretentious, but there is maturity in the overall structure that belies their apparent innocence - these are classic examples of less being more & superficial complexity being crafted through competent simplicity...."Happy" wisely hangs back on a catchy hook & only introduces a pretty little arpeggio on the piano two thirds of the way through that instantly bores it's way into your memory & on repeated plays you are eagerly awaiting it to begin. Fashion also plays a big part in inspiring both her music & looks on stage - she cites vintage Chanel & YSL, Erdem, the ballet, London Music Halls, & vintage cinema as inspiration for her most recent ventures.......
