Almost all of them have to do with the handle. Stowing a saw blade in the handle makes the hatchet feel off balance. It also creates an uncomfortable gripping surface, particularly if you want to use it with bare hands. Having the handle not being flush with the hatchet head, makes splitting wood much more difficult and batoning almost impossible. The hatchet head is very light weight, and the edged surface is pretty much too small to be effective.
