GarageTech's video: Audi e-tron GT production factory Inside the Audi Neckarsulm factory where the e-tron R8 are built

@Audi e-tron GT production factory Inside the Audi Neckarsulm factory where the e-tron & R8 are built
How is the Audi RS e-tron GT built. Behind the scenes footage of the production factory where Audi build the e-tron and R8 in Germany. Factory tour and drone flight through the production plant. The Audi e-tron GT is the brand’s first fully electric car to be built in Germany. The e-tron GT shares it with the R8 at Audi Böllinger Höfe at the Neckarsulm site – this integration of two technically completely different cars is unique in the Volkswagen Group. At the end of 2020, series production of the Audi e-tron GT commenced at Böllinger Höfe, where the R8 high-performance sports car is already being built. Although the facility uses customized new technologies, the finishing touches are applied by experienced workers with a keen eye for detail and a steady hand. The production layout is also unusual. Although the bodies of the two very different models are constructed separately, they are assembled on a joint line. With this concept, which is unique in the Volkswagen Group, Audi is demonstrating the flexibility of its production setup at Böllinger Höfe. Automobiles have been built for over 100 years at the Audi site in Neckarsulm. Driven by innovative ideas, passion and perfection, this site has transformed from a factory for knitting machines to a modern automobile production plant. AUDI AG is one of the largest employers in the Heilbronn-Franken economic region, with 15,710 employees (as of: December 31, 2020) working here for the mobility of the future. The company builds the Audi A4, Audi A5 Cabriolet, Audi A6, Audi A7 and Audi A8 and their derivatives at the roughly one million square meter (10,763,910.4 sq ft) site. AUDI AG expanded the plant by approximately 30 additional hectares about six kilometers (3.7 mi) away in the Böllinger Höfe industrial park in the Heilbronn area. This is the headquarters of Audi Sport GmbH and the production site for the Audi R8 high-performance sports car and the fully electric Audi e-tron GT. Craftsmanship meets Smart Factory – an interactive way to explore the production of the Audi e-tron GT Conversion measures, new production technologies – our interactive graphic shows you, among other things, how we prepared for production of the Audi e-tron GT and introduces you to the employees who build our sports car models with passion and dedication every day. At the Böllinger Höfe, passion meets precision, innovation and sustainability: Series production of the fully electric-powered Audi e-tron GT is getting underway there. High performance and environmental awareness go hand-in-hand here. With 100 percent eco-electricity and heat from regenerative sources, production is net carbon-neutral. The resource-conserving vehicle production process also avoids paper and packaging, uses aluminum and polymer closed loops, and in a first for a new Audi model was planned without any physical prototypes at all. Series production of the Audi e-tron GT, the brand’s most powerful electric vehicle is launching at the Neckarsulm site. The production process at the Audi Böllinger Höfe is every bit as unique as the car itself. No vehicle bearing the four rings has ever been readied for series production as quickly. “As the electric and sporty spearhead of the Audi product portfolio, the e-tron GT is also a perfect fit for the Neckarsulm site, especially for the Böllinger Höfe sports car production facility,” says plant manager Helmut Stettner. That series production could be started on time despite the corona pandemic is the result of pooled competences and outstanding teamwork. The Neckarsulm site had already been a focus site for plug-in hybrids, boasting the highest density of electrified models at Audi with the plug-in and mild hybrid versions of the A6, A7 and A8. “With the Audi e-tron GT, we are producing the brand’s first fully electric car to be built at a German production site and are thus taking another giant step toward the future,” adds Stettner. Electric mobility is becoming dynamic and fascinating, as Audi is proving with the e-tron GT. The four-door coupé reinterprets the classic idea of the gran turismo: Its design is highly emotive, its technology is exhilarating. Two powerful electric motors provide dynamic driving performance and confident electric all-wheel drive. With its net energy content of 84 kWh, the high-voltage battery enables ranges of up to 488 km (303.2 mi) and can be recharged extremely quickly, thanks to its 800 V technology. Suspension, lights, controls, connection, or e-tron sport sound: The Audi e-tron GT quattro and RS e-tron GT kicked off their presales simultaneously in mid-February 2021. Both models demonstrate accumulated technical expertise – and the Audi brand’s strong passion for minute details.
