Their musical rapport is evident in the inspired fusion of McCookerybook's flair for sixties chanson, and Rotifer's hypnotic deep-dive vocals and masterly acoustic guitar. The artfully titled Equal Parts mashes up tired tropes (female lyrics/male music) and thrums joyfully with McCookerybook and Rotifer's cosmopolitan cross-Channel pop, with dashes of country, folk and retro soul. "Start Your Life Again" with its irresistible melody and duet in English and German (a unique and refreshing feature of the whole EP), is nostalgic for a lost progressive zeitgeist, a languorous musical meld, which McCookerybook and Rotifer skilfully weave around the external theme of rock bottom re-inventions ā€“ "When the morning comes and you crawl out of your sleeping bag", the German lyric concludes, "your legs are free to go wherever you want". Equal Parts, is a dynamic, nuanced listen with continental chic. McCookerybook writes "we 'finish each other's sentences' musically and lyrically. These songs rescued the year for me'"; they will transport you too. Helen McCookerybook, (The Chefs/Helen & the Horns), has released eight solo albums. Her latest album Pea Soup (03/2020) received a 4* review in MOJO and extensive airplay on 6Music. The multi- talented McCookerybook produced a documentary on the She Punks with Gina Birch (The Raincoats) in 2018, based on her 2007 book 'The Lost Women of Rock'. Robert Rotifer, born in Austria, living in England for 24 years, has released eleven albums, collaborated with Wreckless Eric, co-written with and produced legendary Austrian artist/chansonnier AndreĢ Heller and recorded with Darren Hayman, John Howard and baroque pop genius Louis Philippe. Joining Helen and Robert on the tracks are Jon Clayton on bass and production and Ian Button on drums. The tracks were recorded at One Cat Studio in London, August 2020, and the EP is a co-release on Gare du Nord and Helen's label Big Song.
