@Blues vs Stars 2019 Playoffs Game 1 Highlights
Fabbri scores, Tarasenko nets two as Blues beat Stars 3-2 Fresh off a thrilling game 6 victory over the Winnipeg Jets to propel the Blues into the second round, Enterprise Center and all of STL were ready to keep things rolling against the Dallas Stars. Two hot teams with a scorching goaltender, stars on both ends of the ice, and playoff woes to overcome, this series promised to be incredibly intense with two evenly matched teams battling it out. In STL’s only series with home ice advantage, winning Game 1 in St. Louis was pivotal. Dallas has one of the toughest arenas to play at in the NHL, and securing a Game 1 victory would go a long ways in reaching the Western Conference Finals. The Blues couldn’t have asked for a better start. Robby Fabbri of all people would open up scoring for the Blues, getting the puck at mid-ice and showing flashes of what we saw his rookie year. He powered past the Stars defense and ripped an absolute rocket between Bishop’s legs to make it 1-0. This alone was an incredible moment to see Fabbri’s hard work pay off, but the Blues weren’t done. After Dallas tied it up in the second, it looked like we’d go into the third all even. Vladdy made a power move to the net and drew an Interference penalty with two minutes to go. Right off the face-off the Stars left Tarasenko with about 10 feet of open ice, and with that amount of time and space to wind up, the Russian Sniper was not gonna miss from there. The Blues exploited Bishop’s biggest weakness yet again (the five-hole) and made it 2-1 going into the third. Binner made some spectacular saves to keep it 2-1, and four minutes into the third we saw what I believe to be one of, if not THE prettiest goal of the playoffs and Vladdy’s career. This goal saw all of Tarasenko’s skills come together in a huge moment. He gets the puck at center ice and showcases his blazing speed to get an edge on the best young D-Man in the league Miro Heiskanen. Once he got the edge Vladdy used his awesome strength and handles to keep Heiskanen off the puck and cut toward the net. Finally he waited for the perfect moment and goes roof daddy over Bishop. A spectacular goal that I will never forget. Dallas would make things interesting, dominating much of the third period and coming within one. Jamie Benn wound up with a spectacular opportunity with a second to go but whiffed on the shot, giving the Blues the game 1 victory. Binnington finished the night with 27 saves and Bid Daddy Vladdi got the game winner. This was an unreal game to watch, and if we don’t pull the win out I think we see the Blues golfing in May.
