SUBMITTER: MrInflammable Pokemon Blue has an interesting history within the pantheon of Gatorbox Extra Life marathons. Way back in *2014* an Any% run of this game was considered for the schedule as the "overnight game that takes a few hours to do" when we still did 24 straight hours of streaming. Rehearsal runs of the game were streamed back in the day, and we still have the notes from the run here in the studio, but ultimately Blue didn't make it to the schedule. We looked to try again in 2017... but that marathon had to be cancelled. Pokemon Blue did eventually get its time in the spotlight, however. Last year this game made it into the Challenge Box with the objective of collecting the Boulderbadge. This was a challenge that required some deep knowledge of Pokemon Gen 1 from a practical level. Who's the best starter? How many trainers can you avoid? Will you have good encounter RNG in the forest? 15 minutes was just enough time to complete the challenge, but Draco failed. THIS YEAR... the challenge is to literally beat the whole game. In 15 minutes. Yes, it's possible but while last year's challenge required extensive practical knowledge of the game this challenge assumes the player is aware of the game on a technical level. Draco fits that description very well, he's "discovered" two Gen 1 glitches in his time ("bike music while not on the bike" in 1998 and "changing player name to OLDMAN" in 2008), however this particular glitch is not in his wheelhouse. The actual way to do this glitch is to shut the game off while it is saving. This results in a corrupted item inventory that allows you to go beyond the "CANCEL" option and down into what is literally game RAM. By tossing a few glitch items you can make the next exit you take lead you into the Hall of Fame room. The game can be beaten in mere seconds in this manner... however Draco spends 15 minutes destroying save files instead.
