In the flurry of the year-end festivities, make your gift a stand-out with these truly unique bottles of art by Absolut, now available at the very hip creative retail studio Artsyfact in Singapore. Absolut Unique, a limited edition of nearly four million uniquely designed and individually numbered bottles will make its debut at the aforementioned studio, noted for being at the vanguard of the upcycling movement in Singapore: Artsyfact essentially transforms salvaged furniture and other "found" items into one-off sculptures. For this collaboration with the renowned vodka house, Artsyfact has custom-built a barrel - the Absolut Unique Drum Roll - that holds approximately 146 Absolut bottles on its six shelves. An outline of the bottle's neck was then fabricated with discarded metal sheets to form the iconic Absolut bottle silhouette. As for the star of the installation, Absolut Unique was created using a "blend" of human and mechanical elements, with splash guns and colour-generating machines and complex coating, pattern and placement algorithms used to ensure that no two bottles would be alike. Commenting on the end product, Jonas Tåhlin, Vice President Global Marketing at the Absolut Company said: "Absolut Unique feels a bit 'mad scientist,' a bit street art." "When the bottles first appeared on the conveyer belt, we cheered. By that point the production line looked more like an artist's studio than a bottle factory. These are really striking bottles. SPLASH GUNS AND ALGORITHMS To give each bottle a unique design, we had to re-engineer our entire production process. Through decades of fine-tuning, we have become experts at making sure each and every bottle of ABSOLUT looks exactly the same. Now we turned this method on its head: no two bottles must look the same. We set up splash guns and color-generating machines, and developed an algorithm that places individual patterns on top of a specially-applied coat of paint, allowing for a nearly endless sequence of combinations from 35 colors and 51 patterns. We defined the rules and then let the machines do the designing themselves. Our facilities looked more like an artist's studio than a bottle factory. 94 quintillion bottles At close to four million uniquely designed bottles we felt that we had proved the concept. Though to be honest, we could have kept going for quite a while. We've calculated that 94 quintillion uniquely designed bottles could be produced before two identical ones would appear. That's more than 13 billion bottles per person on the planet. Many world-class creators have made their interpretation of our iconic bottle over the years. This time we realized a vision of our own. Gunnar Broman and Hans Brindfors designed the original ABSOLUT bottle in 1979; today it is one of the most well-known bottles in the world.
