Addams Family Values is a very silly film with a host of bizarre and odd characters and elements. It's probably not atypical of the period, but I find both the film and the character of Uncle Fester interesting as marks of mainstream acceptability. Fester might not be incredibly out-there in terms of the movie spectrum, but he and the rest of the premise are weird enough that I don't think they would or could be done in the same way today. Also, I did not mention Raul Julia. I should have. I'm convinced he was Gomez. What larks.
