In late October, I got in a late trek in the high Alps just below the Eiger Glacier and massif. It was a cool but sunny day, and the hike took a couple of hours to complete - about 2.5 hours with lunch stop. There was minimal snow on the trail. All the aspens in the area were in full yellow foliage. From Zürich, it takes about 3 hours to arrive at the start, which is above Kleine Scheidegg on the route to Jungfrau Joch. With the GA train pass or Halbtax, an additional 20 CHF is required to take the cogwheel trains at beginning and end - a special price for those hiking the Eiger Trail. Those tickets can be purchased online before setting out on the journey.
