Global News's video: American Claudia Goldin wins Nobel Prize in Economics

American economic historian Claudia Goldin is the winner of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Economics, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced Monday. Goldin was bestowed the prestigious award for “having advanced our understanding of women’s labour market outcomes,” the academy said. Goldin said she planned to ask her husband to look up which economist had won the award, before realizing it was her. “Well, we were sleeping and I had actually woken up earlier and I thought it was 7 a.m. and that wouldn’t be the time for the Nobel,” she said. “Everyone knows the Nobel was announced today, so I was just ready to wake up and ask Larry to look up who won.” Goldin is only the third woman to win the Nobel economics prize.
