@Saskatchewan stabbings: Violent spree likely symptom of intergenerational trauma, residents say
People living on the James Smith Cree Nation in Saskatchewan believe the Saskatchewan stabbing rampage is a symptom of the wider problem of addiction issues stemming from intergenerational trauma. Ivor and Darryl Burns lost their sister Gloria in Sunday's violent attack when it's believed two community members, brothers Damien and Myles Sanderson, began a series of vicious assaults. Ten people were killed and another 18 injured. But Darryl says the Sanderson brothers were caught up in a cycle of trauma that led them to frequent drug and alcohol abuse. Heather Yourex-West explains the vicious cycle in many Indigenous communities, and what they're hoping could change that.
