Global News's video: Most cruel of all politics : Venezuelans gather across Latin America to protest election results

Thousands of supporters of Venezuela’s opposition gathered Saturday in Caracas and other cities across Latin America, to protest alleged election fraud and demand opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez be recognized as the country’s new leader. Venezuela’s electoral authority, considered by the opposition to be an arm of the ruling party, declared after the June 28 contest that President Nicolás Maduro had won a third term in office with just under 52 per cent of the vote. The opposition, led by former lawmaker Maria Corina Machado, claims Gonzalez won the election with 67 per cent of the vote. "When this regime saw it was defeated and (their scheme) was discovered, they chose the most cruel of all politics," said Machado during the protest in Caracas. The disputed vote has thrown Venezuela into a political crisis and sparked a government crackdown on protests that has led to 2,400 arrests. At least 23 people have been killed in the ensuing clashes between police and protesters.
