United States Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle answered tough questions before a congressional hearing on Monday over her agency's failure to prevent the assassination attempt of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump earlier that month. Cheatle admitted before the House of Representatives Oversight and Accountability Committee that the event was the “most significant operational failure of the Secret Service in decades.” Republican Congressman Michael Waltz scolded Cheatle, pointing to a number of transparency failures — including a lack of press conferences held by the Secret Service, FBI or DOJ.
