GoblinTalk's video: What Does The Horn Of Winter Actually Do Theories Spoilers

@What Does The Horn Of Winter Actually Do? | Theories & Spoilers
History & theory video about who currently holds the Horn of winter - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Qp6AiyheKE Spanning all of the books, we only ever learn two things regarding the consequences of sounding the horn of winter, it will wake giants from the earth and it may have the power to bring down the wall What waking giants means and how exactly that could destroy the wall, we can only speculate on.. **Earthquakes** There's reference to waking giants in the book The world of ice and fire; for context it's best to know a little bit of the history first.. The content of Westeros was originally inhabited by the children of the forest, giants, ad other magical creatures, that was until the first men crossed the Arm of Dorne. a land-bridge from Essos, the eastern continent The arrival of man resulted in a War with the children.. and legend says "driven by desperation, the little people turned to sorcery and beseeched their greenseers to stem the tide of these invaders. and so they did, gathering in their hundreds (some say on the Isle of Faces), and calling on their old gods with song and prayer and grisly sacrifice (a thousand captive men were fed to the weirwood, one version of the tale goes, whilst another claims the children used the blood of their own young). And the old gods stirred, and giants awoke in the earth, and all of Westeros shook and trembled. Great cracks appeared in the earth, and hills and mountains collapsed and were swallowed up. And then the seas came rushing in, and the Arm of Dorne was broken" So y that description of awaking giants, it seems very much like a metaphor for causing earthquakes Also I think one very important to note that blood magic and sacrifice were involved, indeed a great sacrifice of 1000 men Personally I don't believe just blowing in the horn will make it work I think it will either require a mass sacrifice or kings blood.. For me causing an earthquake is the most likely theory , but there are some more fanciful alternatives "Tree Warriors" In a Dance of Dragons chapter featuring Asha Greyjoy it says "The woods were on the move, creeping toward the castle likea slow green tide. "She thought back to a tale she had heard as a child, about the children of the forest and their battles with the First Men, when the greenseers turned the trees to warriors." When the greenseers, Turned the tree's to warriors.. now that's interesting, because in the chapter where I believe Jon Snow found/was give the horn it says "The trees stood beneath him, warriors armored in bark and leaf, deployed in their silent ranks, awaiting the command to storm the hill... " awaiting the command, a command like hmm, horn..? it sounds plausible, tree warriors could fit the description waking giants from the earth, but the theory does fall a bit flat at them being able to destroy the wall **Ice Dragons** So this is easily the most fantastical theory, if you haven't heard of ice dragons here is a discription from the book the world of ice and fire These colossal beasts, many times larger than the dragons of Valyria, are said to be made of living ice with eyes of pale blue crystal and vast translucent wings, through which the moon and stars can be glimpsed, as they wheel across the sky. Whereas common dragons (if any dragon can truly be said to be common) breathe flame, ice dragons supposedly breathe cold a chill so terrible that it can freeze a man solid in half a heartbeat." in the prophecy for Azor Ahai states it states they will "wake dragons out of stone" so some believe the Wall is, in part, is made up of sleeping Ice dragons and when the horn of winter sounds they will awaken, thus destroying the wall but unleashing quite a formidable weapon so this theory kind of works, it wakes giants, as in dragons, and it brings down the wall, but surely you would rather leave the dragons sleeping and the wall still standing..
