@Shastasaurus Pacificus: Prehistoric Sea Monster Facts
Shastasaurus Pacificus: Prehistoric Sea Monster Facts Shastasaurus Shastasaurus existed throughout the late Triassic period. The species Shastasaurus pacificus is recognized from California. Shastasaurus, the largest marine reptile species ever found, was a variation of ichthyosaur that could grow to over 65 feet, much lengthier than most other prehistoric sea predators. The Shastasaurus, one of the biggest creatures to ever swim the sea wasn’t exactly a fearsome predator; Shastasaurus was a particular suction feeder, consuming mainly fish and on soft-bodied cephalopods. Shastasaurus was highly specialized and varied significantly from other ichthyosaurs. It was very slim in shape. The largest specimens had a ribcage slightly less than 6.6 ft deep despite a distance of over 23 feet long between its flippers. Due to its strangely short, toothless snout (compared to the long, toothed, dolphin-like snouts of most ichthyosaurs) although current research indicates ichthyosaur jaws do not fit the suction-feeding profile. Shastasaurus was also traditionally depicted with a dorsal fin, a feature found in more advanced ichthyosaurs. However, other shastasaurids likely lacked dorsal fins, and there is no evidence to support the presence of such a fin in any species. The upper fluke of the tail was probably also much less developed than the shark-like tails found in later species. Never the less the thought of even coming even coming across this prehistoric sea creature would haunt you forever. This is why you sleep with both lights on experiencing a lightmare rather than a nightmare. Check out and subscribe to my main YouTube Channel for more amazing and original creative content.
