The Gila Monster: Worlds Most Venomous Lizard The Gila Monster | Worlds Most Venomous Lizard The Gila Monster is A venomous slow moving lizard, up to 2 feet long, and is the only venomous lizard native to the United States of america and one of only two known species of venomous lizards in North America, Since the Gila monster has a sluggish nature, it represents little threat to humans because you can run faster than this beautifully crazy and amazing creature. The Gila Monster protected by state law in Arizona and even places like Nevada. The tail of the Gila is about 20% of the body size and the largest specimens may can reach up to 22 feet in length as of yet. Reportedly, the very heaviest, largest specimens ever discovered can weigh as much 5.1 pounds. The average Gila monsters spends around 90% of their time underground in burrows or rocky shelters. The Gila monster hunts small birds, mammals, frogs, smaller lizards, insects, and carrion for food. while the coyotes hunt them for food. The venom from the Gila monster is produced by its saliva within the lower jaw which is the polar opposite of venomous snakes such as the black mamba. The venom is injected though chewing with its tooth rather biting with a fang because its structure is 180 degrees different than snakes.
