The issue is that most golfers don't really know how to perform this separation or dissociation. In this video, GolfGym creator, Ken Pierce demonstrates that exercise/movement pattern to help you strengthen those muscles that turn the hips while controlling your upper body, or the opposite way around. This drill uses the GolfGym PowerBand/PowerHip Trainer. This is a special band that has heavy resistance and a great grip that you can put both hands on. The PowerBand/PowerHip Trainer is affixed to the mid point (waist level) on the PowerPole in the GolfGym Studio. This drill can also be performed anywhere you can affix the Door/Loop attachment. This means a door, pole, piece of gym equipment, etc. Get in a solid golf posture with the band parallel to your feet and target line. With a good golf grip on the grip of the PowerBand/PowerHip Trainer, start in the impact position. This position will stabilize your upper body while performing the movement under resistance. Then, with your upper body stabilized, start to rotate your hips to the right and the left. This may be difficult at first and you may not be able to rotate very far. But, hang in there and keep practicing the rotation. You will feel the hips separating from your upper body more and more over time. You may feel a little sore in your lower back at first. So, we recommend doing this exercise every other day or as you feel capable. Good Luck with this one.
