Il prefetto Oscar Peluchonneau deve arrestare il poeta che cerca di fuggire dal paese con la moglie. Ispirato dai drammatici eventi della sua nuova vita da fuggitivo, Neruda scrive “Canto General”. Neruda vede nella sua storia di poeta perseguitato dal suo implacabile avversario, la possibilità di diventare sia un simbolo di libertà che una leggenda letteraria.
