Surprising good aurora, despite the bright moonlit skies and cirrus clouds, which obscured the higher features of the display. The aurora followed a weak CME impact early in the day, but solar wind speeds of almost 500 km/s and prolonged southward Bz during the evening were enough to lift the activity to nearly minor storm levels (kp4+).
