Graeme Whipps's video: Sn fellsj kull Aurora

@Snæfellsjökull Aurora
Our second night on Iceland and we manage to find some clear skies on the southern side of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, with the clouds breaking up over the mountains in the northeasterly flow. It was however very windy to the lee of the mountains, but eventually we found a nice sheltered spot to the south of Snæfellsjökull. I've included some footage (x8) of the cloud over the mountain to show the linear flow, and also the more turbulent clouds associated with the "hydraulic leap" on the western side of the mountain. The aurora was visible from twilight, whilst the upper clouds were still showing a little pink from the sunset, and continued well into the night, although the strongest activity was over by around 2300 UTC. The aurora time-lapse starts at 2054 UTC and runs to 2243, and I've added some real time (x8) footage taken during the most active burst around 2225 UTC. Taken with a Canon 6d and Tokina 11-16mm lens (15mm), the first section shot at f3.2, ISO3200, 6 secs, the second at f3.5, ISO3200 at 10 secs. The livve footage was shot with a Sony A7 Sii and ZEISS Batis 2/25 lens
