You've probably heard of the celebrations in Rio, but did you know that Barranquilla also hosts a massive party for Carnival? This coastal city in Colombia goes all out for Carnival, with massive parades, raging parties in the street, all-night concerts and more. The festivities go on for several weeks, but the peak is the weekend before Ash Wednesday. People in Barranquilla decorate their homes and wear vibrant, colorful costumes for the celebrations. Old and young, rich and poor - everyone gets pumped up for Carnival. The interesting marimonda symbol is everywhere you look. With elephant-like ears and a long nose, this silly image is seen on shirts, hats, and masks all over the city. We just had to pick one up and had lots of fun with it over the weekend...
