@Band of the Welsh Guards - Wellington Barracks 20 July 2013
The Band of the Welsh Guards, lead by Drum Major Damian Thomas, Grenadier Guards, accompanying 7 Company Coldstream Guards, as the Old Guard, from Buckingham Palace to Wellington Barracks after Changing of the Queen's Guard on 20 July 2013. A great piece of music, excellent brass, crisp percussion especially the pair of side drummers. The Changing Of The Queen's Guard, more commonly known as Changing The Guard, involves the Old Guard (the previous 24 or 48 hour Guard Mount) exchanging guard duties with the New Guard (the next 24 or 48 hour Guard Mount) in a 30-minute ceremony commencing at 11:30am daily between April and July, and every second day at other times. The Queen's Guard comprises a Buckingham Palace Detachment and a St James's Palace Detachment. Both Detachments exchange duties at Buckingham Palace however before, during and after the ceremony, the St James's Palace Detachment makes its way to and from St James's Palace some 600 metres north east of Buckingham Palace, also accompanied by a band or corps of drums. The Royal Household comprises Buckingham Palace, St James's Palace, Windsor Castle and the Tower of London. Guard duties at these locations are mounted by regiments of the Household Division, the most senior Division in the British Army with all members trained in combat and combat support roles. The Household Division comprises two regiments of Horse Guards (the Life Guards and the Blues & Royals) and five regiments of Foot Guards (Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish and Welsh Guards). However any regiment of the Commonwealth can be invited to mount guard for short periods. The Queen's Life Guard is mounted at Horse Guards, a building on Whitehall that was and still is the official entry to Buckingham Palace. Changing of the Queen's Life Guard occurs daily at that location as well, with the two Horse Guards regiments, Life Guards (red tunics) and the Blues and Royals (blue tunics) alternating guard mount.
