@Band of the Scots Guards - Wellington Barracks 6 July 2013
The Band of the Scots Guards, lead by a Drum Sergeant from the Welsh Guards, accompanying Nijmegen Company, Grenadier Guards, as the Old Guard, from Buckingham Palace to Wellington Barracks after Changing of the Queen's Guard on 6 July 2013. The Queen's Guard is changed daily from April to July, and every second day for the rest of the year, at 11:30am at Buckingham Palace and is known as Changing The Queen's Guard, or more commonly as Changing the Guard. The Queen's Guard comprises a Buckingham Palace Detachment and a St James's Palace Detachment. For the Guard change, each Detachment is accompanied by a band or corps of drums, drawn from the same regiment or more usually another of the seven Household Division regiments, which includes Cavalry bands dismounted. Changing the Guard is the change of the Old Guard (the last 24 or 48 hours Guard Mount) with the New Guard (the next 24 or 48 hours Guard Mount). The Royal Household comprises Buckingham Palace, St James's Palace, Windsor Castle and the Tower of London. Guard duties at these locations are mounted by regiments of the Household Division, the most senior Division in the British Army with all members deployed on active service as well as public duties. The Household Division comprises two regiments of Horse Guards (the Life Guards and the Blues & Royals) and five regiments of Foot Guards (Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish and Welsh Guards). However any regiment of the Commonwealth can be invited to mount guard for short periods. Horse Guards mount the guard at Horseguards, a building on Whitehall that was and still is the official entry to Buckingham Palace. Changing of the Queen's Life Guard occurs daily at that location as well.
