Charlie Christian… what an absolute legend! This is my second installment of learning from jazz icons. I realize the seeming irony of learning an ad lib. solo note for note, but the intention here is to try to internalize Charlie’s amazing sense of timing, phrasing, and note choice… all stuff I’m working to improve in my own playing. **** If it might be helpful to anyone else: We all periodically experience learning plateaus or boredom/low motivation. My go-to antidote, which works every time for me, is to learn great music, especially outside my comfort zone.
