Lee Van Cleef was just outstanding in his role as Ryan, a cowboy sent to prison and later released to dish out some old fashion justice on his former outlaw members. The beginning of the movie is especially brutal with a violent murder, rape sequence in which a family (except for a small boy) is completely wiped out by Van Cleefs gang. The small boy is spared by a late arriving Ryan and then spends the next 20 years honing his shooting skills and awaiting the day he can dish out some justice himself on those who killed his family.
