Chilika lake is the world's 2nd largest lagoon and Asia's largest lagoon and it is spread over 3 districts in the Odisha state of India. It is also the most sought-after lake for tourists in India. It is famous for its migratory birds, islands, watersports, flora and fauna, Sea Food, Irawdi Dolphins. So you need to set your priority on what to watch and whatnot. From Puri-Satapada Side, You Can Watch - Rajhans Island, Dolphins, Sea Mouth, Maritime Museum, Aquatic Museum and research center, Alarnath Temple, Kalijai Temple, Camping friendly islands and facility. From Khodha-Ganjam or Bhubaneswar-Brahmapur Side you can watch- Watersports, Kalijai Island, Breakfast Island, Bird Sanctuary, Nalabana, Honeymoon Island, INS Chilika, Bird Watching in addition to tasty food and Panthanivas by Odisha Tourism. How To Reach- Nearby Railway Station is Balugaon where most Superfast and Express Trains have halt. Balugaon also has Hotels and Panthanibas Nearby. Ganjam- Rambha- For this, you can catch a local train from Bhubaneswar and alight at Rambha Station, remember this is not an express or superfast train stoppage but this place is awesome and it has most of the History of Odisha and India's freedom struggle. The nearby Rambha Palace and Rambha Panthanibas is famous for their hospitality and food and hence mostly preferred by tourist. Satapada- Nearby Station is Puri which is a famous pilgrim town in Odisha, you can get package tours to Chilika if you coming from Puri of Bhubaneswar via this route. Where to stay- The best place to stay near Chilika Lake is Puri town which is nearby Chilika Lake, followed by Barakul and Rambha Pantha Niwas. Also, private hotels like Swosti have now developed some hotels in Chilika lake which is good enough for the stay. Food- If you are coming here then you must taste the famous Chilika Prawn, Crab and Fishes. Because of the water, the taste is special and you will never find it anywhere in India. The best place to taste the Chilika seafood is Chilika Dhaba on the Balugaon side near Barakul Pantha Nivas, but Rambha Pantha Nivas also have one in-house restaurant that is famous for its recipes. Don't forget to taste the Rasagola, the originating place of Rasagola is Odisha and hence this taste you will definitely remember even after days of the visit. Night Camping on Island- Currently people choose to camp in Chilika lake sea mouth where lots of groups of people love to night-stay in camping tent. Remember to plan it with the nearby villagers who will provide all the food, boat, and emergency supplies to you. A bigger group is always cheaper cost per head. Just a caution- There is no toilet and bathing facility, you need to take some makeshift toilet with you and for bathing use few sweet water dug wells on the island which is at walkable distance. For drinking water, take it with you as the water is not in a drinkable condition. Don't forget to take Power Generator and Extra power bank, no electricity in these islands. Nearby Barakul-Rambha - Tara Tarini Temple, Bhagabati Temple Banapur, Narayani Temple, Tampara Lake Chatrapur, Salia Dam or Salia Reservoir, Rambha Palace, Huma Fish Market, Langaleswar Sweets, Balugaon Beta Kama (Beta is a type of cane from which furniture are made), Gopalpur Sea Beach, Jiranga Buddhist Temple, Taptapani Hot Springs, Ghodahada Dam.
