@Metering Modes Explained in Hindi || What is Metering
What is Metering in Photography. In this video Gyani Bill explains the most common metering modes present in your DSLR Camera. Metering is the way in which your camera determines what the correct shutter speed and aperture should be. It depends on the amount of light that hits the sensor. Every camera today has a light meter built in, this was not the case earlier and a separate light meter was used. There are three most common metering modes in digital cameras today: 1. Matrix Metering 2. Center-weighted Metering 3. Spot Metering When you look inside the view finder, at the bottom of the frame you would notice a scale which goes from -ve to +ve. This is the light meter in action. Optimal exposure is achieved when the Light Meter is at the value of Zero (0). + Depicts excess light hitting the sensor; over exposure - Depicts less light hitting the sensor; under exposure In the auto, shutter or aperture priority modes the camera uses this light meter to adjust the values automatically. 1. Matrix / Evaluative Metering This is the default metering for most of the cameras. It works in 90% of the scenarios. The entire frame is analysed for light and the camera arrives at the best value for exposure. 2. Center-weighted Metering In this mode, only the center area of the fame is considered while calculating the light values. This is irrespective of where the Focus point is. This is mode is suitable for the scenario in which you may want to capture subjects in a back lit scenario for e.g the sun is behind. 3. Spot Metering Spot Metering only evaluates the light around the focus point and ignores everything else in the frame. A perfect example for using this mode would be to capture the Moon. Since everything else is dark in the night sky, the spot metering helps exposing the moon correctly in the picture. This mode can greatly enhance the exposure of the Moon.
