Episode 1: 'Bankable' Denzel Washington I Jodie Foster I Matt Damon | Julia Roberts I Dakota Fanning Denzel Washington :- Washington was born in Mount Vernon, New York. His father, Denzel Hayes Washington, Sr., a native of Buckingham County, Virginia, was an ordained Pentecostal minister, and also worked for the New York City Water Department and at a local department store, S. Klein. His mother, Lennis "Lynne" (née Lowe), was a beauty parlor owner and operator born in Georgia and partly raised in Harlem.Washington attended Pennington-Grimes Elementary School in Mount Vernon until 1968. When he was 14, his parents divorced, and his mother sent him to a private preparatory school, Oakland Military Academy in New Windsor, New York. "That decision changed my life," Washington later said, "because I wouldn't have survived in the direction I was going. The guys I was hanging out with at the time, my running buddies, have now done maybe 40 years combined in the penitentiary. They were nice guys, but the streets got them."[9] After Oakland, Washington next attended Mainland High School, a public high school in Daytona Beach, Florida, from 1970 to 1971.He was interested in attending Texas Tech University: "I grew up in the Boys Club in Mount Vernon, and we were the Red Raiders. So when I was in high school, I wanted to go to Texas Tech in Lubbock just because they were called the Red Raiders and their uniforms looked like ours."Washington earned a B.A. in Drama and Journalism from Fordham University in 1977.At Fordham, he played collegiate basketball as a guard under coach P.J. Carlesimo.After a period of indecision on which major to study and taking a semester off, Washington worked as creative arts director at an overnight summer camp, Camp Sloane YMCA in Lakeville, Connecticut. He participated in a staff talent show for the campers and a colleague suggested he try acting. Jodie Foster :- Foster was born on November 19, 1962 in Los Angeles, as the youngest child of Evelyn Ella "Brandy" (née Almond) and Lucius Fisher Foster III. Her father came from a wealthy Chicago family, whose forebears included John Alden, who had arrived in North America on the Mayflower in 1620.He was a Yale University graduate and a decorated U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel, and made his career as a real estate broker.He had already been married once and had three sons from the union before marrying Brandy in Las Vegas in 1953.Brandy Foster was of German heritage and grew up in Rockford, Illinois.Foster also has Irish roots, with ancestry that can be traced back to County Cork.Before Foster's birth, she and Lucius had three other children: daughters Lucinda "Cindy" Foster (b. 1954) and Constance "Connie" Foster (b. 1955), and son Lucius Fisher "Buddy" Foster (b. 1957).Their marriage ended before Foster was born, and she never established a relationship with her father.Following the divorce, Brandy raised the children with her partner in Los Angeles.She worked as a publicist for film producer Arthur P. Jacobs, until focusing on managing the acting careers of Buddy and Jodie.Although Foster was officially named Alicia, her siblings began calling her "Jodie", and the name stuck. Matt Damon :- Damon was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the second son of Kent Telfer Damon (born 1942), a stockbroker, and Nancy Carlsson-Paige (born 1944), an early childhood education professor at Lesley University.His father has English and Scottish ancestry, and his mother is of five-eighths Finnish and three-eighths Swedish descent (his mother's family surname had been changed from the Finnish "Pajari" to "Paige").Damon and his family moved to Newton for two years. His parents divorced when he was two years old, and Damon and his brother returned with their mother to Cambridge,where they lived in a six-family communal house.His brother Kyle is now an accomplished sculptor and artist.As a lonely teenager, Damon has said that he felt that he did not belong.Due to his mother's "by the book"approach to child-rearing, he had a hard time defining a self identity.He attended Cambridge Alternative School (now Graham and Parks) and then Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, where he was a good student.Damon performed as an actor in several high school theater productions.He credited his drama teacher, Gerry Speca, as an important artistic influence, though Ben Affleck,his good friend and schoolmate,got the "biggest roles and longest speeches".
