I picked it up in a Humble Bundle on a whim and after getting used to the controls, completely fell in love with the game. Everything about it is so charming, but my absolute favourite thing is how the music builds up around your progress in the level. And the soundtrack is incredible. So of course, we had to cover a track from it! Superfunk was an instant favourite. I'm a huge fan of glitchy electronica a la Kid A, as well as sexy electric piano. So combining the two was a surefire winner! We tried to emulate the glitchy element of the track as well as we could, through effects and spending hours placing reversed and chopped samples in the song. Hopefully it paid off! It certainly gave me an incredible amount of respect for Aphex Twin, haha. Another thing I loved about the game is how the end of each song integrated the main theme as you crossed the finish line. So after a quick bit of transposition, we stuck it in the final chorus! I feel like it actually worked pretty well :) the bassline at the end was one of those rare times that I sit down and work something out note by note, but I do feel like that effort was worth it. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the cover! And pick up Runner2 if you've never played it! Anne-Sophie says: I'm really happy with the way this cover turned out. Chances are you've never heard this song before but I hope you'll enjoy it anyway. Superfunk was composed by Rich Vreeland and this arrangement is by Haawke.
