'Memories of the scrapyard still haunt Atlas, so much so he's having trouble focusing on his work, and when summer storms affect The Region, he becomes more flustered than ever. Can he stay on track?' GETTING THE STORY STRAIGHT - This was one of the hardest stories to get right. I knew by this point I’d have to start answering questions that I’d opened since Episode 1, but how was the real problem. It’s a very load-bearing episode, and hopefully doesn’t suffer from it. - The story originally started by salvaging bits and pieces from an old fan fiction and putting them together under the guise of Crossed Lines, but then evolved and devolved at will. At one point Atlas was too arrogant, at another he was too saintly, then Benjamin was only in it during the middle, the mail run was originally from Callast, Cojak and Atlas’ trains would leapfrog each other, it was a mess. I’m happy with what I got in the end though. - The Class 08 Boxer from ‘Down The Drains’ was also going to have a much larger role. He was going to act as a mole on the Masonry Bridge, but while redrafting, I felt his story went nowhere, so he was quietly dropped. - - And we finally have a journey up the line station to station. The geography in Crossed Lines is kept fairly vague, which I feel I should have really established at the start. Ah well. Along with the map, we have other digital segments, such as the Control Signalling Array, the Engines' Eyelights and the memoryscape, which I feel make this episode stronger than just all models. - Atlas seeing visions of Masonry Bridge makes sense. I promise you it does, his mind goes back to where 'home' is. If you don't buy it, trains are different from humans so yeah. - Smashing up Atlas in this episode allows me to do tweaks on his face, as I wasn't too happy about keeping it looking like its 3D original. - This was edited a lot like ‘Going Haywire’, in different segments which would then all be joined up. My least favourite scene to edit into place was Cojak and Atlas squaring off. I must have edited it four times and kept misplacing which file I put it on. - The radio was a device that came later into the story, and the ideas for songs came even later. So yeah, Neville is now part of the Crossed Lines canon :) - I think this episode will be followed up with an outtakes reel, because there was so much more stuff that I had to cut down, especially of Mr Traverse. - The 'shunting socks' line was actually an outtake, but I felt that it worked too well with the Driver's character to not include it. Sorry Matt! - There are a whole lot of background jokes and things here. The placement of cows, the Perfection truck, Cojak getting covered in shrubbery. - Part 2 has no narration. There were lines. They were cut. The visuals speak for themselves. - Favourite set? The bridge or the junction or the back of Dragon's Wharf Workshop. Favourite scene? Mr Traverse' outbursts or leaving Dragon's Wharf with the Mail Train.
