Harris Public Policy's video: Latinx Heritage Month at UChicago

@Latinx Heritage Month at UChicago
In celebration of Latinx Heritage Month join the Latinx Heritage Month Committee for our annual ¡Pachanga!, an evening of music performances from influential Chicago artists and a conversation with our keynote speaker Barbara Barreno-Paschall, (State of Illinois Human Rights Commissioner). We are offering this event in collaboration with The Harris School of Public Policy and I-House. Although this year presents many challenges, we are committed to continue this tradition and sing, dance, learn and be inspired. Keynote Speaker: Barbara Barreno-Paschall is an experienced attorney and policy advocate who is dedicated to promoting civil rights and helping communities thrive. She serves as a Commissioner with the State of Illinois Human Rights Commission following her appointment by Governor JB Pritzker in 2019. Prior to her appointment to the Commission, Barbara was an Associate at Sidley Austin LLP and a Senior Staff Attorney at Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights. Barbara is active in her community and is an elected Community Representative on the Kenwood Academy High School Local School Council and volunteers as a board member for Harvard Alumni for Global Women's Empowerment and the Hyde Park-Kenwood Community Conference. Barbara is also the recipient of the Chicago Scholars 35 Under 35 Award, Negocios Now's Latinos 40 Under 40 Award, and the Hispanic National Bar Association's Top Lawyers Under 40 Award and is an Emerging Leader with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. Barbara is a graduate of Harvard College, Vanderbilt Law School, and the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy, which she attended as a recipient of the Irving B. Harris Fellowship, a full-tuition scholarship. A Southern California native, Barbara is daughter of an Ecuadorian immigrant and lives in the Hyde Park neighborhood with her husband and daughter.
